Immanuel Lutheran, Zittau to Celebrate 150th
Bishop Mark Hanson to deliver anniversary message
Submitted by Pastor Mark Kinney, Zittau
This month will celebrate the official signing anniversary of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Zittau. Immanuel is now a remarkable 150 years old, and the church plans to celebrate its longevity with an anniversary service at 10 a.m. on February 28 followed by a specially prepared brunch. The entire community is invited to attend the celebration as the church welcomes the presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Reverend Mark Hanson, attending to deliver the anniversary message.
The charter members of Immanuel made history on February 25, 1860 when they incorporated God’s church on the map in Puttzig. These members were mostly farmers, loggers and fishermen. The conditions outside were rough, but these people of God trekked across frozen mud, winter’s gales and snow drifts for a purpose, a mission to be one with their Savior.
Throughout these 150 years, the mission has stayed the same. Immanuel members still, to this day, are empowered by the Holy Spirit and converge to Immanuel. The heart of Immanuel is its people. This warmth, this glow that radiates from 9077 North Road is truly God-given and it speaks beyond words.
The staff of Immanuel and the 150th anniversary committee have been hard at work putting together the final details for the celebration. Immanuel has invited other clergy in the area, as well as Bishop Justman, to witness the celebration.
“I am grateful to all those who are a part of the brunch preparations, and to the 150th committee for their time, talent and efforts, as we pass through Immanuel’s historic milestone,” commented Pastor Kinney.
