Where Lang’s Landing currently sits on the western shore of the Wolf River could possibly become the new home of a hotel/resort and marina. Developer Mike Mullen, who knows Dennis Lang, owner of Lang’s Landing, is actively researching such a development in the village of Winneconne, which he hopes to conclude this spring.
Lang approached Mullen about his interest in putting a hotel/resort on his property and what he thought the success of it would be, which has led to meetings with other business owners and key groups offering feedback about the possibility.

Lang’s location on the water, and in the village, proves to be a great location for such a venue, say village officials, and could bring more tourism to the area, create jobs, and offer another outlet for people to enjoy. “The bottom line is people should take this possibility as a victory,” shared Steve Volkert, village administrator. “Individuals are spending a lot of money researching, trying to bring improvements to this community. Yes, it may not happen, but it’s an exciting possibility.”

Mullen’s research will touch on the number of rooms it could support, how much occupancy to expect, the number of boat slips needed, and appropriate rates. From there, he will seek out investors and, possibly, a TID (tax increment district) through the village. In addition, approval from the Department of Natural Resources is needed as to the number of boat slips the hotel/resort could provide.

Though there are still many unanswered questions and hurdles to jump, the village is excited at this possibility. If all goes well, the project would break ground this fall and be completed for a July 2013 opening.
