What’s Hot, What’s Not
The Fishing

With last week's consistent
south wind, the river in Winneconne has seemed to be hit or miss.
Fishermen seem to have been catching either 50 white bass and a few
walleyes or nothing at all. Fly rigs and crappie rigs tipped with
minnows have worked well when the current is going in the right
direction. With a little rain and less of a south wind, the white
bass should be going crazy this week, as water temperatures rise and
good reports from Oshkosh keep coming in.
The cane bite has started
with good reports of walleyes and blue gills coming in with most
guys using a slip bobber combined with a small jig tipped and leech.
Look for the right wind, stay off the beds and let the wind push
your bobber up against the weeds for the best action.
The trolling bite has been
really inconsistent with one day being explosive and the next being
a zero. Shad Raps and Salmo baits have been the most successful with
shad colors catching the most fish. Running these baits in deeper
areas of the lake with a little more speed than normal seems to help
the consistency.
The channels around
Winneconne still seem to be producing good catches of crappies, with
most fishermen using crappie minnows or Cubby jigs with a plastic
tail. This is definitely my favorite type of fishing to get some
family fishing time in.
Good Luck Fishing,
Critter
