Beautify Our Downtown
Adopt a
Planter
It’s back! Spring that is
and the village’s third annual ‘adopt a planter’ event. Winneconne’s
Beautification Committee is seeking individuals, groups, or
businesses with a gardening bent to adopt a downtown planter and
fill it with glorious blooms of their liking.
Volunteers are responsible
for purchasing plants, as well as planting and maintaining the
planter during the course of the spring and summer months. Plants
are requested to be in by Memorial Day weekend in advance of the
village parade. They should be removed by no later than November 10.
“Perennials are alright,” said committee member Kathy Grace, “but
they too must be pulled in fall. Plants that require staking are
discouraged.”
Grace also said if you
volunteer to adopt a planter, recognition plaque will be provided
stating who maintains the planter. “We so appreciate the help by the
community on this project,” said Grace. “We have many talented
gardeners and the past two years our planters have looked really,
really nice. It’s clear there is a real feeling of civic pride in
our community”
To go along with the
village’s summer banners, the Beautification Committee appreciates
flowers following the color scheme of blues, greens and reds to tie
the downtown’s look together.
If you are interested in
adopting a planter this year, please call Kathy Grace at 582-3256 or
email her at gendiva@charter.net
